Some years ago, while living in Rhode Island, I received a Rio Pride gift package from a friend, and thought "What a strange thing to send."  Reluctantly, I tasted the fruit, which I expected to be tart and bitter.  Instead, it was love at first taste!  Now, I'm sorry to learn that the season only lasts five months out of each year.  Not only does our family never let our Texas grapefruit run low, but it is the easiest and best bargain to be found for gifts to business associates and friends.  Without exception, everyone who has received this gift agrees that it is by far the best citrus they have ever tasted.

My wife and I are Winter Texans.  Each spring we take home to Canada as many bags of Thompson's Rio Pride grapefruit as the car will hold.  They usually last until July, and then it's no more grapefruit until we return to Texas in November.  A few summers ago, when the Rio Pride grapefruit were all used up, we bought store grapefruit.  Never again!  If we can't have Rio Pride we'll go without!  While in Texas we send gift packages from Thompson's Rio Pride to friends in Lake Elmo, MN, Sault Ste. Marie, MI and to La Conner, WA.
